Mindful Moments
A mobile app / brand where both Alzheimer’s patients and their family members have a space to positively support each other during the caretaking process, allowing them to bring back their family’s spark that was lost post diagnosis.
Senior thesis

A tool for families battling an Alzheimer's diagnosis.
Mindful Moments takes the entire family into account. This dual-entry app has a "patient side" and a "family side", each with a different set of research-based features.

The patient side of the app.
The Alzheimer's affected individual is able to input their mood multiple times a day, scroll through a feed of messages and images from their loved ones, and view a list of their family members.
The app has an extremely simple user interface and interactability. This was intentional to ensure the patient can utilize the platform independently depending on disease progression.

The family side of the app.
The caregiving side of this platform focuses on appointment management and information sharing. With the use of a calendar module that pushes notifications to all users (patient excluded), all caregivers can have access to both new and old medical information.
Additionally, family members can post messages and images to the patient’s feed on their end of the app, as well as track the patient’s mood data.

App interaction and usability.
The two sides of the app work in tandem and provide updates for users every step of the way. Family members get notifications about appointment updates and the mood tracking feature, while the patient receives notifications about new posts on their feed.
Additionally, Mindful Moments has an admin site for users to manage their profiles, adjust patient settings, add new family members, etc. — features that are also available on the app.

Mindful Moments is a concept for the entire family.
This project inspired me to continue my thesis and complete an Art & Research Distinction in Visual Communication Design where I wrote and illustrated a children’s book. This story breaks down the reality of an Alzheimer's diagnosis in a concrete and sensitive way, and bridges the gap in what is lacking in current Alzheimer’s support.
